I've heard it said that we speak on average about 20,000 words a day or about 700 instances. That's like a small book.

Words can be the greatest encouragement or produce great destruction. Solomon said it well "The tongue has the power of life and death..."Our words can bless people. A mother's words to her child, a coach's words to his team. A leader's words to the troops.

The effect of words is not always positive. As a child, I used to hear the words stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Painfully, I've found that is not always true. Words can hurt a lot.

Jesus said, "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:37). What do people hear from you each day? Are they encouraging or destructive? It's something I think about...
